is the outcome of the lok sabha elections that took place for about five days from 16th of April 2009 to 13th of may 2009. And may 16th was the day on which the counting of voting ballots took place. About eleven lakh electronic voting machines were used for this election and about 71.4 crore people had exercised their voting rights. Since, the deadline date for starting the fifteenth lok sabha was set to be 2nd June, and hence may 16th was chosen to decide on the fate of this 15th lok sabha.
As per the constitution of India, the election for Lok sabha in India has to be conducted for every five years under normal circumstances. The 14th lok sabha elections were conducted in the year 2004. The term period of this lok sabha ends on 1st June of 2009. There were about five phases involved in this democratic election 2009 for the 15th lok sabha. These five phases were held on the following days, April 16, April 22, April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 13 of 2009. The election results 2009 of the above phases was announced on 16th of may 2009.
It is the Election Commission of India which conducts these general Election results 2009 and it was estimated that there would be about 714 million voters. But this increased to 43 million voters in the election conducted in 2004. Also in three other states in India such as Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Sikkim, the elections are conducted in their respective legislative assemblies.
